Wearing the wrong underwear style for your body can lead to two big problems:
- It can cause all kinds of problems down there,
- This can put women off and ruin the perfect end of your date night.
It’s never really talked about. It’s underwear only – who cares, right? But how many people suffer discomfort and long-term problems from cheap, non-supportive underwear?
Fixing it is no rocket science! You only need a basic understanding of three different types of men’s underwear: Briefs, boxers and boxer briefs.
You guessed it – that’s what I’m covering in today’s article. Get ready to find out:
- Which underwear looks best?
- Which Underwear Style Is Comfortable?
- Which style is most functional?
- Which style is the most versatile?
- Which underwear do women prefer over men?
#1. Which underwear looks best?
There are a few things to consider when researching the different types of men’s underwear.
Your body type is an important factor – is your belly slightly round or flat? Do you have big or thin thighs? Your proportions are nothing to be ashamed of, but you need to know what type of men’s underwear will suit your frame.
Boxer Briefs – Best of both worlds
Boxer briefs are hybrid options When it comes to the three different types of underwear.
They are like lean shorts which give extra sex appeal to your legs for ladies. They make your legs look more muscular and trim, which helps hide the extra weight you may be carrying on the top of your thighs.
But what about thin people who have the opposite problem? Boxer briefs can also help you. Unlike briefs, they do not highlight the pain points of a man’s body image. If you think you have a matchstick, boxer briefs won’t reveal that fact.
In short, gents – boxer briefs cover all kinds of sins.
Boxers – loose around the legs
As a grown man, you want underwear that’s a little more padded and grooms your thighs upward. Boxers do it well. Since they resemble shorts, they also make the lower body appear larger.
Boxers help accommodate slight asymmetry for those on the thinner side. Everyone at One Direction agreed that they would love to wear boxers. Granted, that was a few years ago, and most of them can be more adventurous these days.
briefs – show everything
Sadly, not everyone has the body of a Calvin Klein model or professional athlete. Pulling underwear shorter in length requires a special build.
Briefs will put a lot of pressure on a person who is not in great shape. The minimalist design means that almost everything is on show – from your belly to your thighs.
If you are physically fit then it can be beneficial for you. You worked hard on your abs; Why not show them?
But it’s probably best for my dad-bods and skinny readers to avoid briefs and look to other types of men’s underwear.
When it comes to the comfort of different types of underwear, the keyword to consider is help.
We all miss the big picture when it comes to comfort. There is more to it than just feeling comfortable. Whenever we are walking or roaming, we need to give the necessary support to our manhood.
Briefs – Maximum support at all times
Briefs, by far, provide the most support. The better they are made, the more freedom of motion you get. Just listen to what soccer superstar David Beckham said about tit-whites: “They’re comfortable. I think they feel great, especially when you’re playing football too.”
Boxer Briefs – Great for Comfort and Coverage
Once again, boxer briefs serve as a hybrid underwear option. They sit somewhere between the skin coverage provided by boxers and the support provided by briefs.
You will feel comfortable physically and not feel awkward because you feel that your masculinity is showing. They don’t leave your masculinity hanging like a boxer but they cover most of your body.
Try jogging in boxer briefs and boxers, and you’ll see the difference.
Boxer – Incapable but great for sleep
Boxers are good for when you’re asleep or don’t plan on getting out of bed. In fact, boxers are like shorts. They are airy and comfortable enough to wear as an alternative to lounge pants.
In addition, they lack support. Other men might like to feel like you’re not wearing anything underneath – but this isn’t a good idea if you want to maintain the health of your manhood.
Support is essential because it keeps everything hidden in a neat package… Pardon the pun.
#3. Which underwear style is most functional?
Definition: how well they cover and keep things
Your underwear has two primary roles:
- protection – Keeping everything tucked-up and out of the way
- cover – no one wants to see your johnson through the pants, trust me
If what you’re wearing sometimes fails with any of the above – consider a switch.
Warning: Some underwear styles can be too tight and put your health at risk.
Boxer Briefs – Functional and Well Fitting
Boxer briefs cover the inner thighs and are generally immune to the same issues that apply to briefs and boxers. They’re not so tight that they overheat you and sweat in there, but they’re not so loose that they have no support.
Justin Timberlake tried all three before settling with boxer briefs. He likes “the way they put everything together”, which is essential whenever he sings and dances on stage.
Briefs – The Most Supportive Option
They don’t pose much of a risk of wardrobe malfunction (unless they’re the wrong size). Briefs keep everything organized and supported – great for the gym or physical activity.
However, they do not cover the inner parts of your thighs properly. And there’s also a chance that they can cause a mess when your body moves.
In short, health problems can also occur if the right precautions are not taken. As a result of their tight fit, it is common for a man’s scrotum to push against his body when wearing briefs. This can cause them to overheat – which has been linked to a decrease in sperm count.
I think that’s something you want to avoid! Just make sure you buy the right size for your body. Sure, briefs feel tighter than other types of underwear—but they don’t have to be too tight!
Boxers – A wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen
They can be quite the loose cannon in the gym! They don’t hug the leg and keep your package concealed like a briefs or boxer briefs. Maybe you are doing sit-ups by mistake just to give complete information about gems to someone.
Many of us think that this sends the wrong message.
#4. Which style is the most versatile?
Underwear is underwear, isn’t it?
While most men use their underwear as an undergarment and nothing more, there are other uses if you choose the right pair.
boxers – Versatile and multifunctional
In a pinch, boxers can be worn as an alternative to shorts.
Am I saying you should turn to a family BBQ at Boxers? No way.
However, this underwear style is a perfect alternative to long sweat pants to have around the house on your day off. Be careful when relaxing on the couch – as mentioned above, you can inadvertently flash whatever is chilling with you.
boxer briefs – the best of both worlds
Given that they cover you with little more than briefs, boxer briefs can be used as an alternative to sweat pants in the right position.
Unlike boxers, they have a very tight-fitting structure. They reveal more than boxers, so be careful who you’re wearing them in front of.
At the end of the day, they still look like underwear. However, you can probably get away with them while chilling at a friend’s place for drinks and pizza. Just avoid wearing them with your in-laws, friends’ kids, or anyone else you’re not very close to.
briefs – the least versatile
Briefs aren’t versatile—at all.
Let’s say a fire alarm goes off, and you have to briefly leave your house or your building. People see what they get – a man in his tight whites.
My advice? Unless it’s a life or death situation, throw a pair of pants over the top of your briefs. Alternatively, plan and make sure you’re wearing boxer briefs or boxers if you know anyone will be watching you other than your wife and kids.
#5. Which underwear do women prefer over men?
Women pay more attention to men’s underwear than you think.
Like guys find a woman in lingerie incredibly sexy – Women love a man in underwear.
But that doesn’t mean any old pairing will do.
Gentlemen, ladies have spoken, and this is one of those times we better listen.
Boxer Briefs – Women’s #1 Choice
When it comes to the types of men’s underwear that women find most attractive, boxer briefs win by a landslide.
This is the design that makes most of the ladies swoon. Whether on the underwear model or on the body of her husband’s father, Women love the tight fit and sexy shape of boxer briefs.
Instill enough faith in these bad boys, and you’re guaranteed Impress the woman in your life. Just be sure to buy the right fitting pair:
- is not too short or long in leg – Boxer briefs should sit just below the thigh halfway point
- not too tight or loose – They should not be mistaken for boxers, nor should they cut off circulation to your junk
- a dark color – The deeper, the better. Dark colors look sexy and make you look slim
Boxer – good but not great
They have an edge over briefs, visually.
For thin people, they help add some weight to the lower body. Women like it because it makes thin legs more muscular and masculine.
It also helps a lot when your midsection is bigger. Wearing boxers properly as a big boy can make a man appear more uniform, which women find attractive.
However, boxers tend to hide muscle and definition. If you aim to show off whatever you want to hide under your underwear, boxers may not be the way to go.
Briefs – Women’s Least Favorite
When it comes down to it, most women prefer the other two.
It may have something to do with the briefs they would see their father or younger brother wearing back home. Not many people find them more appealing than Calvin Klein’s billboard commercials.
Which is the best men’s underwear overall?
Boxer briefs takes the trophy hands down.
Consider the number of Hollywood heartthrobs who love sporting boxer briefs: Ben Affleck, Patrick Dempsey, Josh Duhamel, Jared Padalecki, Mark Salling, John Legend, Adam Levine, and John Mayer. Those guys are so comfortable in their bodies (and aren’t afraid to show it!) Boxer briefs suit them well, so who’s to say they won’t suit you too?
